12/03/2003 Entry: "Punctuation quiz"
Replies:
I got six right and feel vaguely stupid. But then, I'm an American---and unrepentant. The test was obviously biased toward those gentle folk of the British Isles. Of greengrocers we know little, and of the Bard even less...LOL

'cause of the bit with the full stop being inside or outside the speech marks, and calling full stops periods.
This reminds me of the My Fair Lady line when the professor is talking about English etc... "In America they haven't spoken it for years!"
(of course present company excepted, many friendly (and literate!) americans read this fine blog!)

Whyd' you need to speak American Alice? But you did better than me! (Or should that be "better than I"? I can never remember which is properest)
Andrew - Maybe "greengrocer" was put in to confuse the Americans!

I *do* speak American, but we Americans never say "greengrocer's" anyway. Who the heck says "greengrocer's"?
Sincerely,
your illiterate friend, Andrew

I thought I was relatively good at grammar but am ashamed to say I only got 8 out of 10 - 'cause I don't speak American!!
