11/16/2003 Entry: "BlogWiki: a new wiki for bloggers everywhere"

This blogging is great fun and, I think, useful in all sorts of ways. It enables thoughts and opinions to be shared and refined. Sometimes though, you notice that some discussions keep reappearing in all sorts of different place: Why do we blog? Is blogging like journalism? You know the sort of thing. It's the nature of a blog that discussions are had and then disappearafter a few days. Most of the time that's as it should be, but some of those things need to be kept accessible.

Enter BlogWiki, a new venture that I hope will be a benefit to the blogosphere. A wiki devoted to blogs and blogging. I've only today got the script up, so as of today there isn't a huge amount there. But then, I don't want to do it all myself. A wiki is a communal thing by its very nature so consider this an appeal for recruits!

All kinds of stuff could go on there. Comparisons of the various blogging systems. Blog ethics. Inspirations. Gratuitous self-promotion. Hints and tips. It's free-for-all and self-policing. Anyone can contribute, whether it's a complete article or amending someone elses spelling or formatting. The key is participation -- spread the word!

Maybe the easiest way to get the hang of formatting is to look at a page, and then click "edit this page" -- you can then see all the existing formatting.

I went to play in the Wiki sandbox....and couldn't find it.:^)If academics can use wiki, should be a cakewalk for us ordinary types.The formatting page is formidable.I'll try again soon, my curiousity is getting the better of me. Blog on!

It does look and sound complicated -- but it really isn't!

Here's the thing. Even if you can't get the hang of the formatting (which is alot easier than it first appears), you can still put your two penn'orth. Someone else can ome along and tidy up the formatting!
