03/15/2004 Entry: "Birthdays? Bah!"

As Bene Diction has been kind enough to note, today is my birthday. I'm now in a state of advanced old age, and decrepitude surely lurks around the corner.
It isn't all bad though. My daughters pandered to my inner child with a pair of Homer Simpson socks. My wife presented me with a rather splendid "tinwhistle" from Dave Shaw, and it is a thing of beauty. It's a shame that the same can't be said of my playing...

I'm heading very quickly toward 41. I hit the big 40 last July.

It's not so bad.

Always remember that there are just two sure signs that you're really getting old.

1. Your memory starts to fade.

2. Umm .... well .... I'll let you know when I remember what it is.

You know you're getting forgetful when you look at a CD in a record fair and wonder "Hmm, haven't I got this on vinyl?"

You know you're getting really forgetful when you buy it, take it home, and find you have.

You know you're getting really, really forgetful when said CD/LP is Richard Thompson's "Amnesia".

Yes, it happened, though not to me, or to anyone I know. Happy belated birthday Richard.
