02/04/2004 Entry: "I'll be standing at the bus stop at the corner of our street..."
I had a test of my will power the other week. I was walking past the local music shop when I spotted a ukulele smiling back at me from the window. It was a couple of days before the urge to go back and get it went away. But this morning I heard an interview with a member of The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and temptation has returned. Their version of Anarchy in the UK was, shall we say, inspirational.
I know it's wrong. I shouldn't do it. My head is telling me firmly: "Be strong. For the sake of your poor wife and children."
But my wicked heart still urges me.

For some reason, this reminds me of the fantastic bit in 'The Day Today' when Chris Morris announces that unseen footage has emerged that casts new light on George Formby's songwriting.
Cut to an overdubbed version of one of Formby's films, with him (voiced by Chris Morris) doing an ukulele version of 'Subterranean Homesick Blues...'
"Don't follow leaders, watch your parking meters. Hey-hey!"
Just me then.

The call of a musical instrument is a strong one. Bully for you to resist it! (I do think, however, that it might be wise to have a chat with the shop-owner. He might be enthralled by your musical nature.)
I have found that it is nonetheless best to walk away from any instrument that 'calls out' to you. Should it still be calling so loudly after a reasonable amount of time has passed, well then just go ahead and buy it. Some things are of, well, 'utmost' importance. :-p

I don't knoww about "standing at the bus stop". What about "Leaning on the pulpit?"

Now that is a terrifying image, Selina!

Now I think about it, I'm pretty sure that should have been "lamp post" not "bus stop" in the header.
I'm taking some comfort from the knowledge that George Formby's songs are not, in fact, lodged indelibly in my brain. I have hope!
